There are some Yeerks who do not need the Kandrona completely such as the oatmeal fanatics. But there are some Yeerks in the pool Ket Minar who don't need to visit a Yeerk pool for five days instead of three. The Yeerks were expirimenting on their own people to extend the life period of their own species but the expiriment looked to be a failure. All three Yeerks mated and died. The gene just happened to be ressecive in their bodies. But the chemicals produced during fission made this a dominant trait in three fourths of the Yeerks in this pool.
