There's a family a few houses down from us, and I am sure they are Controllers - they all belong to the Sharing and stuff and the father has connections to some well-known Yeerk partnerships. But recently something strange has happened. One of thier teenage kids came round for a sleepover with my sister, and in the morning, they ate oatmeal for breakfast. The yeerk-kid became really strange and crazy! My family thought it was just a game but she kept on shouting the words 'I'm a slave to the yeerks!' as well as stuff which I couldn't understand. A few days later, I saw that Yeerk-family bring home thier shopping - and they had bought a tonne of oatmeal! Now they are acting very strangly, and other yeerks (I think they are yeerks) are visiting their house - and one yeerk had a GUN! Is this a coincidence or does cereal and rice and stuff have an effect on yeerk bodies?

Oatmeal? What, like porrige and stuff? Hmm... seems unlikely to me.

well, you never know how they react to that stuff! Maybe there is something in the wheat that affects them. Like some humans are allergic to gluten or whatever.

I have fairly good evidence that it is the maple and ginger flavored oatmeal. and only the instant kind. it seems to be addictive to yeerks, like a narcotic drug. it replaces part of the yeerks' brain (yes they have brains..) and abolishes their need for kandrona rays, after prolonged exposure.

They won't need the kandrona? WHAT?! But that would destroy their only weakness!

yes, but it drives the yeerk insane, and causes it to be able to remain in its host indeterminately.

Oooh. So it's kinda a double edged sword. Drives them insane, but stops them from needing kandrona. Does the host go crazy too or can he act for himself?

Host can usually act for himself. Yeerk goes crazy, and is insane while in control. Depends, usually, on the type of the oatmeal.

Yes, the host is apparently unaffected by the Yeerk's madness, and as the Yeerk's brain becomes more damaged it eventually can't control when it is control of its host. Hence, random outbursts.

It is considered contraband by the Yeerk Empire. Possession of it is punisheable by death with a Dracon beam.

Right, so it's not really a weapon we could use then, is it. If it ends up with the host dead or in a psych hospital.

And I just thought oatmeal was really bad for yeerks.

Well, I don't like any kind of oatmeal. Period.
