"Oh," Reyx said, nodding. "I understand. And the payment? Well, before we head out to Derinth in the morning, I'm to do a little hunting for the innkeeper. He's low on meat, so it's my job to pick some up for him later. And hunting is quick. We'd be on our way in a short while afterward." He smiled. They walked down the corridor that led to the dragon-rooms. Luckily, all of them were unoccupied, so they could get side-by-side rooms, if Syrah so wished.
"Pick any one you like," Reyx said. inside, they would find typical lodging for dragon guests. That is, a bathroom, with a specially designed toilet and sink, and in the main room there was a large slab of stone that was shaped just right for comfort while sleeping. Most dragons slept on their bellies, or on their sides; the beds were constructed well for both. None that Reyx knew of could sleep on their back; it put their wings in an uncomfortable position, and then made them sore in the morning. Hard to fly. aside from the bed, there would be a small end table, as well as an orb of light and a shade that could be pulled down around it. It was all a dragon really needed for lodging.
"Go ahead and pick one."

Syrah half heartedly glanced at all the rooms. What she really wished for was a room that was lockable, and had bars on the windows, and was sound proof. But she wouldn't get that. Room style and shape, colour and comfort had no appeasal to her. So she walked off to the room on the far end, briskly. She hoped that Rexy Greatwind did not mind, although that wasn't what he was telling the Xxyx that name, but an allibi. She wanted a room as far away as possible from anyone else. "I'll be okay here." She said, beckoning to one of the more shabby looking rooms. "I'll be okay in this one. I find it hard to sleep, so if you here me mumbling, I'd ignore it." Syrah quickly added, before going into her room, and shutting the door. She settled down for the night, hoping for the best. ' At last. Finally I get to try a few things. Such as flying. ' Syrah lay on the rock bed, with fear in her heart.

"Good night," Reyx called, slipping into the room next to hers. He was unaware of what was going on with Syrah, but he had a feeling that she couldn't keep the secret forever. And he could feel, even through the stone wall that was between them, that whatever spell was surrounding her was intinsifying. Through the window, Reyx could see the sun. It was sinking below the horizon... going.. going... gone. Night had come.

Shikahn had woken. Deep red eyes peirced the night. Shikahn survayed her surroundings. "So." She wispered, so quietly to herself. Her brain processed the information that Syrah had gathered. All that she knew. "Rexy Greatwind? Isn't it Reyx...? Ahhh. I know who he is." Shikahn mumbled. Eyes wide open and staring, she slunk out of the room, and peered round the door, to see the great bronze dragon. Shikahn thought of maybe killing him, but the thought was repressed instantly by Syrah, and the fact that he was probably much more expeirenced and stronger than her. 'Shikahn, why don't you do the hunting? You could practise flying.' Syrah asked. Shikahn turned her eyes on the window. Creatures were still bustling outside, rushing to get back to wherever they came from. It all seemed a bit... heptic. Shikahn padded with expert silence, back down to the first floor. The creature at the desk looked... Wary. The now black dragon crept closer to him. She watched his movements with scrutinising eyes. Syrah was looking too. 'I think he's told about Reyx Greatwind! Look, he has loads of money next to him! No wonder he let us in so easily.' Syrah explained. Shikahn knew exactly what to do. She leapt forward, a flash of shadow, and grabbed the innkeeper by the neck. "What have you done?" Shikahn hissed. "I haven't done anything!" The Innkeeper wailed. Shikahn gave him a hard stare. "Tell, me, the, truth." She said slowly, and threataningly. "I-I haven't!" The Innkeeper yelled. Shikahn's grip tightened. "Tell me." Shikahn whispered. "Look! I told one of the Nightwing regiments! They said to turn any dragons in! So they could train them to be warriors! Plus, they paid me a hansome amount of gold! For the Bronze one! You can have some if you want!" The Inkeeper explained. He held out some gold to Shikahn. She didn't look at it. "You'll pay for this one day." Shikahn hissed, letting go of the innkeeper. "Who are you though? I didn't let you in!" The Inkeeper asked. "I was with the Bronze dragon. Don't you regognise me?" Shikahn asked. The inkeeper gasped. "A half-life?" Shikahn roared. Then, as quick as lightning, she ran back up to the room where Reyx was sleeping. "Reyx! Wake up! We need to leave! NOW!"

((I love plot twists! >:3))
Reyx was jolted awake by the roar that rumbled through the inn. A dragon. He didn't recognize the voice. And he was startled more when an unknown, yet familiar-looking dragon warned him to wake up. Even though he didn't recognize the creature that was speaking to him, he complied.
"What's wrong?" he bellowed. "And who are you? Where's Syrah?" He examined the dragon closer. "You look just like her. But you're not her. Are you?"

Shikahn's eyes thinned, as she scowled at the bronze dragon. She was surveying his every movement, every breath. "Syrah will be fine. I told her to go, earlier on when she went out." Shikahn said. "Anyway, this isn't the time for questions. We need to leave, otherwise we are dead dragons walking." Shikahn warned. "Ask them after we have escaped from Nightwing." She gave Ryex a meaningful stare. So he followed, as Shikahn snuck down the stairs, and waltz past the inkeeper. But then the inkeeper started shouting. "Half-life! It's a Half-life! She'll kill you, I swear to you!" Shikahn looked round at the innkeeper and hissed, with all her strength. Then, like some wild animal, she leapt upon the Inkeeper. "You keep saying that, and it will be you who dies!" She growled, with slaiva dripping from her maw. "I'm hungry, I haven't eaten in five days. You'd make a nice meal..."

"Half-life?" Reyx wondered aloud, and then saw why Shikahn had jumped on the Xyxx. He glared at the innkeeper. He saw the pile of treasure, and knew immediately what had happened. He could undertand the other dragon's fury. But now was not the time. They needed to flee, and if they had to, to fight. "We'll hunt later," he growled at the other dragon. "After we get these demons off of our backs. Come. Now."
He turned to the inkeeper, eyes filled with a mixture of hatred and pity. "You sold us to Nightwing, you loathesome creature... But Nightwing has more plans for you. I'm sure. He paid you, as I can see... but that's not all he'll give you. Be warned, fool." With that, Reyx exited the inn, returning to his ful size and strength as he exited the establishment, the arches doing their magic.
The night had grown cold. It was unusual for this time of year... which could mean only one thing. The evil dragon's spies had come, and his demons were on their way. The stars above were lifeless, as though a blanket of darkness had fallen upon them. Reyx could feel a slow hatred for the Foul One building in him. One that he shared with all other dragons that still opposed Nightwing.
"Nightwing!" he roared to the still ngiht air. "I've killed you once. I shall do it again!"

"Are you stupid?" Shikahn snapped. "We need to get away from here, not fight! We could easily be outnumbered. And I can't fight. We need to bide our time, build our strenght, then attack! It's probably why last time you ended up so badly wounded!!" Shikahn hissed. She shouldn't have said it, but Shikahn was frightened. She could smell the demons that lay in wait for them. "We need to flee to the forest. I know forests. It'll be easier to fight there is nessisry. But we must go." Shikahn said, with the utmost urgency.

"Next time, Foul One," Reyx snarled, following Shikahn. "Let's go. The forest is our best chance, as you said." He looked Shikahn over. "It's guarded by powerful magic." He gave a great leap and his wings snapped open, catching the air. He knew that if Shikahn really was Syrah's half-life, she would be able to use Syrah's memories and experiences to fly with.
He knew that she was right. That he had acted foolish. He reflected on his actions; he'd never before been so impulsive. He usually thought things through. He didn't know why, but the Sages would be able to answer his questions when they reached Ninevale.
A loud screech came from behind him. He swooped, narrowly avoiding the claws of one of the winged shadow-demons. With a powerful charge of magic, he infused his flame with shards of light, aiming quickly and carefully at the sky above. Several of the creatures, unseen, screamed as they were impaled. They fell to the ground, dead. They would have to fly fast, keeping as many of the creatures back as they could.

Shikahn hissed. Now she was annoyed. If she knew anything about Nightwing, it was his minions who had killed her fammily. "DIE, NIGHTWING SPAWN!" She howled to the night. And flew after the creatures. But she could smell them, as foul as rotton eggs in a airtight room. She slashed at one, catching it by the wing. She snapped at where she thought the creature's head was. A dying screech was the last sound that came from it. Shikahn kept attacking, flailing wildly at the creatures she could smell so well. But one swooped behind her, and slashed her across the wing. She screached in an ultra high tone, the sound bursting the demon's ear drums. (if they have any.) The noise was enough to put the creature off until she finished it off. Black blood was being blown away from the wound on Shikahn's wing. Black?! Shikahn's eyes widened. That wasn't the normal colour for a dragon's blood. But knowing Shikahn had done all she could, she dived to the cover of the forest.

Reyx dove after her, heading for the huge clearing of trees that was large enough for the dragons to land in safety. It was - or had been once, long ago - known as The Landing. There were many of them spaced throughout the forest, for the specific use of dragons that might visit the forest - and of course, the Dragon Sages. As Reyx entered the barrier that surrounded the forest, he roared the ancient word that activated the shield against evil. With a burst of brilliant light that swept across the sky, the demons crahsed against the magical barrier and disintegrated like fiery ashes.
"These were only lesser beings," Reys said with a warning to his voice. "Stronger ones will not be stopped by this barrier. Come. We head for Ninevale, the Capitol. There, we will find the Sage Council, and have our questions answered. And with all certainty, we will have new questions raised. Such is the price of a council with the Sages."
He looked Shikahn over carefully, noting the black blood that was seeping from her wing. It wasn't normal. He didn't know anything about half-lives, but even thier blood, he was sure, was not black.

Shikahn licked her wound on her wing, rather naturally. She gazed up at the almost invisible barrier that surrounded them. The council of the sages. Shikahn was worried. She had a bad feeling they wouldn't take to her nicely. She had killed some of Nightwing's creatures. She no longer had the protection of not being involved. So she followed Reyx, who was leading them to the great sages. But a few questions came to her head, ones she had never thought of before. Who are my parents? I wonder what they were like... Many questions about who Shikahn, and Syrah were came to their half minds, mixing in a jumbled mess, leaving them both confused. "I wonder..."

"What is it?" reyx asked, looking over his shoulder at the half-life. They were entering the realm of the trees. The trees here were absolutely massive; some of them were over 800 feet tall, and the largest were so thick that a dragon couldn't hope to knock one down by itself. There was plenty of room between the massive trunks, though, for even the largest dragon to pass unheeded. The canopy was so thick, though, that landing anywhere but one of the designated Landings was all but impossible. It was a pity that they were coming through the forest at night, and under such poor circumstances. It was a beautiful place.
There was a rustling in the trees around them. The undergrowth shook. But Reyx remained calm; he knew what was coming.
"Halt," said a gravelly voice from before them. With their sharp eyes, they would be able to make out the distinct form of a large figure ahead. It was a Sleii, from the Ankylian clan. A huge, herbivorous reptilian people. Other people had come from the surrounding foliage; a few Xyxx, several members of both species of Sleii, several Dragons, and even one Ilsowy had come greet the pair.
"I am--" Reyx began with a raise of his claw, but he was interrupted.
"We know who you are," said the Ankylian Sage, raising his dull-clawed hand. "And we know why you are here, Reyx Greatwind." The Ankylian that was speaking looked at Shikhan. "And we also know who you are. But, the question may still remain... do you?"

Shikahn scowled at the Ankylian Sage, baring her teeth. "If you're so great, maybe you should know." She snapped. Reyx gave her a quick glance, as if to say, 'That's incredibly rude. Answer his question.'
Shikahn looked down to the floor. "I don't know who I am. All I know is that my father must have been evil, and my mother must have been good. In that sense, my mind began to fight with my other half, and so, I was probably cursed. Some say that half lives are born of two parents, and because they can't be with each other, the child is cast into the island of Half. All I can remember is being washed up ashore on this mainland." Shikahn sighed. She really felt lost now. Lost in an ocean of mystery and lost identity.

"You will find your way," The Ankylian said, with the equivalent of a smile. "You will see. The events that will unfold in the next short while will help you find your destiny. We can say no more of this. Who you are is not for us to tell you... but for you to discover on your own."
"Come," he beckoned to the pair. "Ninevale is close. You can sleep in peace tonight. And then we can discuss events in the morning, if you so wish it. Or, of course, we can discuss it with the Council the moment we arrive... it is up to you. This meeting, between Reyx Greatwind and the Council of Sages, is of top priority to us. No other meetings will be put before yours. You may both speak to the Council whenever you so wish it."
