Yeah. They get the morphing ability by way of the Escafil Device, the blue cube. They aren't born with the power.

It's funny. I've always envisioned the Escafil Device to be more than just a blue cube... I always imagine it having engraved, circular markings all over it. Like I've actually seen it before. But I know I haven't.
