Even if you sent a missile, it wouldn't help. A coronal mass ejection like the one that popvenom is talking about is made up of plasma and ionized gasses - not much to actually blow up. And most solar flares are many times larger than Earth, anyway.
The last solar flare to hit us, by the way, was pretty massive, and it struck last month. And I didn't see anything crazy on the news. Sure, it was pretty warm those days, (And in many areas of the world, there was a mass show of aurora borealis), but other than that, it didn't cause anything wierd to happen. And it certainly didn't kill anyone.
Point of the story: We can't do anything about it, and it probably won't kill us if we can't.
