Unless your character is an Andalite, no-one is going to know every single rule here right off of the bat.
First off: morphing power is a technology, no one is born with the capability of morphing. Morphing power can only be obtained by touching the Escafil Device (the blue box). If you are not an Andalite, you must have permission from a mod to have the morphing power.
Morphing's #1 Rule
There is a two-hour time limit to morphing. Any longer, and you are trapped in the animal form, thus becoming a nothlit. Only through natural metamorphosis can you regain the power back. The Ellimist *may* give you the morphing power back, but this will only come with moderator permission.
Acquiring
You must first touch the animal to acquire its DNA. You must have about a moment to absorb it, and be able to focus. Only then can you morph it. After absorbing the DNA, you need to form a mental picture of it in your mind in order to successfully morph. In order to demorph, you need to form a mental picture of yourself.
You can't acquire someone else's morph...you need to acquire the actual original animal itself. You can only acquire and absorb animal DNA, and yes, it does include humans and other sentient beings as well. However, you can't morph into plants, trees, and especially NOT inanimate objects like desks or chairs. Also, animals must be alive to be acquired.
It is rare, but some DNA acquired may not...agree with you. If this is so, you will morph the creature erratically, and will eventually create an entirely new animal from the excess mass in Z-Space. This is called "burping" DNA, or in Andalite, Hereth Illint. The "burp" is a response to the loss of morphing control caused by DNA allergies.
The Morphing Process
When you morph a very small creature, your excess mass is drawn into Z-Space. Normally, this is safe, but if your mass ever gets caught in the wake of a ship (a rare case), chances are it will be destroyed.
Mixing the DNA of animals that can breed is possible, such as two different humans or three dogs of different species. The result will be what an offspring of the two (or more) would look like, and would be of the median age of the animals acquired. Doing this takes more skill and focus than just morphing one animal. To the Andalites, this is called a frolis maneuvre.
While mixing DNA of breedable animals is acceptable, mixing DNA of animals that cannot breed is NOT. So, I do not want to see any ligers or chimeras running around. However, if you are highly stressed, you may end up mixing two creatures (the one you are morphing and another at random) together. The morph, however, will not be functional and may be disgusting.
It is physically impossible to go from one morph to another without returning to your regular body first. In other words, if you are in eagle morph and you want to go grizzly bear, you need to demorph first, and only then can you do the other morph. However, rapidly morphing, demorphing, and morphing in a short timespan can and will get exhausting.
Any injury obtained while in a morph can be repaired by simply demorphing and/or demorphing then remorphing. Injuries don't affect the actual creature's DNA, unless you're fatally close to death or knocked out cold. If that is the case, you won't be able to summon enough concentration to morph back. Morphing cannot cure, but may slow down, genetic diseases such as cancer.
You cannot morph a pregnant animal and be pregnant. The child is not in the DNA. As well, if you are pregnant, if you morph during pregnancy, you will lose the child, since the child is not a part of your DNA. And if you eat anything in morph, it will only nourish you while you are in morph. The DNA in your blood does not age as you do.
As the Animal
Each particular morph has its own REALISTIC strengths and weaknesses. For example, if you are in tiger morph, you cannot fly, nor do you have the power to bend space-time continuum or turn people into pineapples. Once you morph an animal, you get its instincts, as well as your own. You can get lost in its instincts, and sometimes, it's best to let instincts take over, such as birds with flying. To roleplay out a creature's strengths or weaknesses, ask a moderator or go to your good friend, Wikipedia. The inability to control a morph is called notallssith.
In morph, you will talk in thought-speech. You can actually speak in morphs, but only in the way of communication of that animal, such as the growl of a tiger or the speech of a human. Only in your natural form, unless you are an Andalite, will you not have access to thought-speech.
