Random thread, it is indeed.
Soz, I've been up all night due to the insomnia I get once every six months or so, and I'm not tired. Of course, I'll probably conk out at 3 or so. But still, for now (5:30 am on the nose, EST) I'm wide awake. So, bleh.
I set up a little hummingbird feeder about two weeks ago, and checked it every once in a while, expecting no results. But as it turns out, I actually have two tiny male ruby-throated hummers that visit my feeder once every twenty minutes or so. As soon as I get some good pictures (little fuckers are FAST) I'll post them up when I can. They're territorial though, and the bigger male won't let the other one near the feeder if he can help it. I have a feeling that the males aren't alone; I'll try to catch a female on camera if one comes by. xD I love those little guys. Grampa has his camera downstairs ready for deer (we feed them, too); mine's on standby for hummers on the deck. :3
Anybody else setting up camera traps for wildlife, or am I the only nature nut?

Rattle snakes are a threat.

I want to set up nesting or perching sites for bids of prey, too. But an owl or a falcon might scare off my hummers. I love golden eagles, but they are only occasional visitors here.
Well, I did see a beautiful red-tailed hawk a few days ago, riding a good thermal up.

They're awesome. I respect them a lot. I've seen documentaries of them, and some in captivity, but never the wild article. They can take down young adult deer. I've seen bald eagles though, when I used to live in South Carolina, Florida, and Texas.
I have lived many places, and visited many more. I love to travel.

I suppose. But I've only been out of this country once... visited Mexico when I lived with my dad. It was interesting, but not so much as I was expecting.

What were you expecting?

Judging by what I have seen of Mexico on TV it seems to be all sand.

That was my experience, too. I was expecting it to be more different from the USA, but it was more or less the same. I guess I was expecting adobe buildings and stuff like that... traditional Mexico. Instead, it was regular brick buildings, shopping complexes, fancy restaurants... I think the town we went to was just a tourist destination, not somewhere that exhibited the true face of Mexico. I don't remember the name of the town, but it was only perhaps thirty miles across the border.
